The history of the Houston Highlanders has it's beginnings in late 1963 when several accomplished Pipers and Drummers, from different Pipe bands , came together to form a uniquely Houston Pipe band.
After much discussion the 8 original members of this band began to train other Pipers and Drummers for the band.
The Houston Highlanders took small gigs at first and was making a name for itself by 1964, when it filed as a non-profit and officially became The Houston Highlanders.
As early as early as 1965 we have entertained a young George Bush Sr., later years the then Prince Charles of England, celebrities such as Rod Stewart, and at places such as Nasa, the 4th of July parade for the City of Houston, and many more events. We have a rich history of entertaining Houston with the rich culture of our Celtic music.
Since that time our name has become, throughout Houston and surrounding areas, a household name and expanded into the Houston Highlanders Pipes and Drums.
We have competed in many Higland games and Pipe band competitions such Stone Mountain, Sherman, Salado, The Houston Highland Games , and many more.
We strive to share our music with everyone and do this through providing free lessons to budding Pipers and Drummers at no cost. We also hire out as individual Pipers, and or a band.
Visit us sometime and enjoy our practice sessions.
